The project concerns development of the former Novarese Colony (built 1933-1934), an important example of rationalist architecture used for a heliotherapy colony in the 1930s. It consists of a single isolated body that develops horizontally, parallel to the beach. The elongated building, with its rounded extremities, recalls the shape of a ship, both in terms of the floorplan and the elevation. The project area is located in south Rimini (hamlet of Miramare), in a barycentric context between Rimini and Riccione.

The intervention area includes the Riminiterme -Talassoterapico -Novarese area, in one of the green areas overlooking the sea, between State Road 16 and the Principe di Piemonte promenade, 500 metres from the Federico Fellini international airport and directly served by the coastal metro (TRC), which connects Rimini railway station to Riccione railway station, in a central position between the two cities. It is in this area, historically intended for functions related to wellbeing, that the former Novarese Colony is located, which can act as the structural element around which to focus the concrete intervention plans.
It is a few kilometres from the Riccione motorway tollbooth and can be easily reached by public transport such as the coastal metro (TRC) using the Miramare station, and several bus lines.
It can be reached on foot and by bike from the historic centre and from the railway station along cycle paths.

The fundamental elements include:
• position;

Current authorisation status
At present, the urban planning procedures relating to urban planning and building authorizations have been completed for redevelopment of the complex as a hotel (NOC prot. No. 110359 of 26/7/2012).
