The Province of Ravenna

Ravenna is strategically located within the Adriatic area, with the most important regional port, two freight terminals and proximity to the airports of Bologna and Rimini. The territory has a population of 391,000 inhabitants and is home to the Ravenna campus of the University of Bologna, with over 3 thousand students. The main industries are mechanics, living and agribusiness. The province’s exhibition centre is located in Faenza. The area is of outstanding historical and artistic heritage and the historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quality of life is high, the city of Ravenna was the national capital of culture in 2015 and is famous for its lively coastal life and with naturalistic areas inside the Po Delta Park, another UNESCO site.

Data on transactions shows an increase from 3,010.42 in 2013 to 4,496.34 in 2018, with a growth of 49.36%. The highest concentration of transactions is found in the urbanised area of ​​the capital and in seaside areas.

In terms of property size, transactions in the province of Ravenna can be broken down as shown:

  • 7% properties up to 50 sqm
  • 36% properties between 50 sqm and 85 sqm
  • 24% properties between 85 sqm and 115 sqm
  • 14% properties between 115 sqm and 145 sqm
  • 19% over 145 sqm

The province of Ravenna has the highest number of transactions for properties between 50 m2 and 85 m2. The 2018 IMI figures settled at approximately 2% for the provincial capital, without showing any excessive deviations from this value in individual areas.

The most important industries are mechanics, living and agribusiness, with outstanding quality in machinery, in the artistic ceramics of Faenza, in typical food products (pears, piadina, wine, meat and cheese), as well as important chemical and boating companies. There is an important exhibition centre in Faenza.

A total of 225 foreign multinationals have invested in the province, including: Cofco, Gowan, Marini, Cisa, Red Bull (Scuderia Toro Rosso), Guillin (Nespak), Kverneland, and Borgwarner. The province of Ravenna enjoys an advantageous logistic position: the Port of Ravenna is the region’s main port and is a key hub for agribusiness logistics and beyond. The province has several freight terminals (Lugo and Faenza) and benefits from its proximity to the airports of Bologna and Rimini. Ravenna holds 18th place nationally (out of over 100 cities) in the 2019 smart city index by I-City Rank (Forum PA). The Ravenna Technopole comprises 7 laboratories (CIRI MAM, CNR, ENEA-TEMAF, and CertiMaC relating to the ceramic district and CIRI FRAME and CIRI EC).

Cultural and natural heritage, accommodation, tourism

Ravenna was the capital of the Roman, Gothic and Byzantine empires. The historic centre is home to eight UNESCO World Heritage Buildings, with famous mosaics, in addition to the tomb of Dante Alighieri. The province registers an annual presence of 6.7 million visitors and an accommodation capacity of approximately 79,000 beds (2018). Natural attractions include the Po Delta Park, which is also a UNESCO heritage site, the coastal areas and various protected oases. The coast is also famous for its lively nightlife and amusement parks such as Mirabilandia. National capital of culture in 2015 (re-nominated in 2019), the cultural attractions include the Alighieri Theatre and the Ravenna Festival which involves the whole territory.
