Bologna, City of Knowledge is a strategic project encompassing multiple regeneration areas in the north quadrant of Bologna, which includes assets such as the Tecnopolo Manifattura – Data Valley Hub, research centers, and universities. This hub of innovation and knowledge is located on the Via Stalingrado axis, well connected by public transport and close to the railway station. The investment opportunities concern the regeneration and expansion of the area of the trade fair district, as well as the regeneration of dismissed artisanal, productive and military areas with mixed intended use including hospitality, advanced services, commercial, entertainment, student/social housing. In particular, a Digital Village will be built a few meters from the Tecnopolo Manifattura, creating a new hub of over 18,000 m2 for offices, spaces, and innovative housing. The regeneration of the trade fair district includes many properties owned by BolognaFiere and is primarily concentrated in three zones. The northwest zone includes large areas with opportunities for new advanced services as well as mixed use with temporary residences. The west zone is intended for the regeneration of a production area. The southwest zone is available for accommodations, entertainment, and retail.

The area, located 30 minutes' walk from the historic center and the High Speed railway station, is highly accessible from the ring road, at the north exit of the highway, and is served by several public and structured parking lots (such as the Michelino Parking). The area is affected by important public and private mobility projects:
● Firstly, the new tram line, already under construction, which will connect the Bologna High Speed railway Station with the Michelino Mobility and Exchange Center to the north, crossing via Stalingrado to the south and stopping both near the Fair and the Region;
● Then the Metrobus line or self-contained bus service whose route follows that of the tram and then continues towards the metropolitan municipalities of the northeast, outside the urban area;
● The new planned cycle paths of “Via della Conoscenza”, which will connect the neighborhoods outside the historic center of Bologna in an east-west direction;
● A possible strengthening of the railway belt with the insertion of an urban public transport service;
● Finally, the strengthening - a project already in progress - of the northern ring road.

The strategic project aims to achieve the following objectives:
● Designing a new mixed-use area that interacts with the new urban development poles (e.g. Big-Data Technopolo and Ex Caserma Sani) to originate a residential, leisure and work district served by a diffused pedestrian and cycle path network
● Creating an urban connection along the Fiera edges that activates as a city for events and recreational activities (The Space Cinema, Virtus Arena, Teatro Comunale Nouveau, Palazzo dei Congressi, Teatro EuropAuditorium, etc.) characterized by high-quality public spaces.
● Consolidating and expanding the fair and exhibition activities by opening new pavilions in the northern areas for B2C fairs and open-air events.
● Regenerating the axis of Via Stalingrado by creating active fronts, diversifying the use of the road, introducing greater flexibility of uses and safe dedicated paths for bicycles and pedestrians
● Improving accessibility and visibility of the Fiera through an enhanced public transport system, an efficient parking and exchange system, and active mobility
● Creating a sustainable and resilient system through an integrated strategy that concerns the Decarbonization, Energy, Circularity and Climate Resilience Roadmap.
