Imola represents one of the main production areas for the Metropolitan City of Bologna. Industries suited to the area include: manufacturing, craft and industrial activities and other related functions. Over 1,000 companies are already established in the area, including some specialising in woodwork and in the production of wooden packaging, a large number of micro and small subcontracting companies for mechanical components, some medium-sized packaging companies, some electrical machine manufacturers and, finally, some leading freight transport and logistics companies. This in addition to numerous companies in the tertiary and commercial sector.

The area is traversed by the A14 motorway and extends around the Imola motorway tollbooth. It is served by Provincial Road 16 Via Selice in a north-south direction, connecting the motorway tollbooth to the city centre.
The industrial area of Imola is located on the north-east side of the historic centre. Its proximity to Imola station and the motorway facilitates trading operations and business trips.
It only takes 15 minutes by bus to reach the city’s main piazza in the historic centre.
The centre of Bologna is 38 km away.

The area is covered by urban planning tools at a supra-municipal and municipal level.

Two Urban Implementation Plans have been approved for two portions of the area, of approximately 4 and 16 ha. If no variations are made to the Urban Implementation Plans, only a Building Permit would be required for those portions.

Possible transformation
With the exception of the portion subject to the Urban Implementation Plan, the following process can be envisaged for the area:
1. Possible variation to general urban planning;
2. Operational agreement or other urban implementation tool;
3. Application for building permits and other permits (if necessary).
